Player Information

Here you will find all you need to know about becoming a player at BNC!

Whether it's your first year or you've been with us your whole netball career, we are so thankful you chose BNC.

Where do we play?

All games during the season are played on Saturday at Fremantle Netball Association (FNC) also known as Gibson Park. FNC is located on High Street, Fremantle.

The time that your team will play will be the same each week and is allocated by FNC once all registrations are complete.

Where do we train?

Teams train at either Beaconsfield Primary School Netball Court, Hale Street near the corner of Scott Street or FNA (above).

The day, time and location of your training session are determined by your coach. Pre-season training typically begins mid to late March, start with the start date also determined by your coach.

Coaches will have a discussion with team members with a few options and do their best to accomodate as many people as they can.

Remember that your coaches and team managers are volunteers so their time is very valuable and appreactied by all at the club!

What team will I be in?

At BNC we have teams for all ages and skill levels! The competition age groups are done by year of birth. We have Senior Competition, 18 & Under and Set and Go. When you first register at BNC, your birth year will automatically put you in the right team.

Trial and Grading Process

To align with Fremantle Netball Association (FNA) guidelines, BNC is transitioning to birth-year groupings and ability-based teams in 2026. This requires a fair trial and grading process for all 10&U Go and Junior players (compulsory unless otherwise notified).

Before team announcements

Coaches from the 2025 season provide feedback on players to help assess individual strengths.

Friendship flexibility

Players may nominate up to 3 friends via the PlayHQ registration form. Every reasonable effort will be made to place your child with at least one nominated friend.

Team finalisation

Assessors collaborate with coaches and the BNC committee to determine final team placements. Once teams are announced and graded, players will not be moved except in exceptional circumstances (e.g., serious injury requiring rebalancing).

Next steps

Graded teams are submitted to FNA with BNC’s recommended divisions.

FNA finalises the grade/division for each team.

Game fixtures are released on PlayHQ approximately 2–3 weeks before the season starts.

This process supports balanced, enjoyable teams and fair competition while prioritising player development and friendships.

Younger Players (Set & Go)

BNC participates in the Fremantle Netball Association's (FNA) Set & Go competitions, designed as the main entry-level program for younger players (typically ages 7–10). These fun, supportive games introduce netball skills and game knowledge in a modified format that builds confidence and enjoyment while allowing a bit of friendly competition.

Key features include:

  • Played on grass courts
  • Gender-neutral teams
  • Age-appropriate modified rules (e.g., adjusted footwork, replayed balls, shorter matches, and skill-focused modifications)

Who will coach the team?

At BNC, every team is led by a generous volunteer coach, often a parent, guardian, or family member, who gives their time and passion to support our players.
Coaches are required to follow the Coaches Code of Conduct, upholding the highest standards of integrity, fairness, respect, and professionalism at all times.

Would you like to coach?

No matter your level of experience, whether you're new to netball or have years behind you, we warmly welcome volunteers.

BNC provides all necessary equipment, full support, and
covers the cost of coaching courses, resources, or app subscriptions you may need. We also aim to pair each team with a dedicated Team Manager to handle admin, communication, and
equipment duties.

BNC aims to assign a dedicated Team Manager to every team.
Team Managers are highly valued volunteers who play a vital role in supporting the Coach and contributing to the success of both their team and the entire club.

Some Nitty Gritty Stuff

Netball - A Winter Sport! Game Play

Netball is a winter sport, and, in general, rain alone will not cause a game to be cancelled. Cancellations due to severe weather are at the discretion of FN and are made to prioritise the safety of all participants. Any game cancellations will be communicated to teams as soon as possible.

Forfeiting A Game

A late forfeit occurs when a team fails to field a team of 5 or more players after 12:00 pm on the Friday before the game.

Late forfeits often result from avoidable choices rather than genuine illness or unavoidable circumstances, and cause significant disruption to all involved.

To cover the direct costs incurred by the club (umpire fees and FNA penalties), a late forfeit fee of $250 will be charged to the responsible family/families.

Early communication with your coach or team manager is essential to avoid this outcome wherever possible. We appreciate your cooperation in supporting a reliable and fair competition for everyone!

Sounds great! How do I register?
